DVD Compatibility List

Towards the end of 2003, the club purchased a new VCR/DVD combination machine in an effort to both reduce the amount of equipment required, and meet the growing interest in DVD.

The VCR section plays VHS and S-VHS whilst the DVD player is compatible with many formats.  The following list has been compiled from discs submitted for testing.  With the phenomenal impact of recordable DVD, there is no possibility that this will ever be anywhere near complete, but we hope that it will help you select a suitable medium for movies you wish to show at the club.  However, if you propose to submit work on a medium that is not listed, you are reminded that it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that the disc will play to your satisfaction.  Samples can be tested on most club nights, contact the Technical Office for more details.

One surprising result from our tests is the potential quality of the SVCD format.  Although it does not have the capacity to store a long movie, it should be ideal for any single movie submitted into a club competition.
