WESTCLIFF FILM AND VIDEO CLUB LOTTERY GRANT
Introduction During the early part of our 2008 season, we received the news that our lottery application had been accepted. So, with an ‘Awards for All’ grant of nearly £6000, Westcliff Film & Video Club are going ‘out and about’ into the community to put on film shows for those who can’t get out and about themselves. The aim of the project is twofold. Firstly, we are offering to present entertaining film shows of both local interest and entertainment to local groups who can’t get out very often. Care homes and homes for the elderly being just two examples. Previous shows to such groups have always attracted much interest and praise from the audience. The second part of the project involves training and guidance to select members of other organisations. The idea behind this part of the project stems from the numerous requests we have received over the years from various charities and groups asking to make videos or promotional films for them. By offering to train and advise members of such organisations in the skills and techniques required to make a ‘story’ on video, will help enable such groups to make their own videos to suite whatever needs they have. The Lottery funding has enabled us to purchase portable projection equipment for the film shows, a video camera and computer for use at the training sessions and other equipment for use in connection with the year long project. Nigel Woodham, our publicity officer in a recent press release said, “We had always planned to do something that would involve us more within the local community. But with limited resources, always found it difficult to do more than a couple of shows a year. Now, with the additional funding we are able to offer many more shows and it will give us the opportunity to pass on skills we, as an award winning video club have gained over many years to help others to help themselves”.
